Retail Therapy @ Marina Square
Wilson posted at 12:13 AM

Have not gone shopping for quite some time and yesterday I finally found some time to do some retail therapy. I took aim at Marina Square, armed with an ATM card in my hand. Have thought of going shopping for sometime already but could hardly find the time. I'm getting more and more sick of the clothes in my waredrobe and the other of my shoes are peeling off already, it's really neccessary to do some shopping.

The shopping trip yesterday was quite fufilling. Went home with a pair of sandals, a Puma shoes, a Puma T-shirt and a Baleno jeans. Spent almost $200 but did not really feel the pain. That's the benefit of working. Of all the rewards I like the Puma Shoes most, though it's the most expensive as well. It's unique that it's made of pig linen and the shape and colour is quite nice. Though it's not as comfortable and it's a little small but I will not mind as long as it looks nice.

Still serious lacking T-shirts, perhaps retail therapy will come at the end of the week. I'm targetting Plaza Singapura this time round. Stay tuned.

To huat or not to huat?
Wilson posted at 3:03 PM

For the past few weeks, my MSN nick is "To Huat or not To Huat" and guess that puzzles some of my peers. As Kym ask me, 'Why can huat dun want to huat?' However, sometimes, huat is not everything.

Basically, this question came to my mind when Pauline ask us whether we want to extend our contract in StarHub. Prior to that I know I have to make that choice sooner or later but never really thought of that. My heart is more inclined to leave StarHub, not that the job or the environment is not good enough. Just that I have other dreams. I did thought of getting a Monday to Friday, 9-5 job. It will give me more time to fufill my dreams, for example enrolling for music lessons on weekends and settling my Nomadic Technology in the evening. Yet reality is harsh, I know I will not be able to get a job that soon, let alone such a high-paying job. Therefore it's really a choice of money or dreams.

I was sent the e-mail regarding this and was expected to give a reply in less than 2 hours. I chose to follow my brain and agreed for an extension. As of today, it's more or less confirmed that I'll be continuing in StarHub. Strangely, on the night I agreed to continue, I have this dream. I dreamt that I had rented a portion of a shop to sell my PSP accessories. Guess that's why people often say that dreams are often opposite of reality.

I've to set my dreams aside for now, wonder where my 'nomadic spirit' went to. My plans is to job-hop till I enter university and hope to learn to set up a pushcart. Dreams are still dreams afterall. I'm will not say I'm filled with regrets but whether I stay or leave, it does have it's pros and con. Since I made the decision, I shall do my best. With the capital I gathered from working, perhaps I will be in a better position to follow my dreams in the future.

Finally my first pay
Wilson posted at 10:49 PM

Never blog for sometime, a bad start to the blog. Must find more time to blog, which also means less dota. Not that I do not have stuff to blog about, thought of ramen comparision, 21st birthday celebrations, X-gamble... However, just as I log in to blog, often find myself distracted by work or Dota.

Finally today I have more time to blog. The recent greatest event will be my first pay received in my life. $1819 after CPF, quite high for a first timer huh? Finally I earn a pay which is worth mentioning, unlike the pathetatic pay received during my NS years. Guess with great pay comes greater responsibility. Do not think that Dad will give me anymore money already and mum is already starting to ask me for money, have not decided how much to give.

It's budgetting time too. With this sum there's so much I can do. I wanna go shopping, perhaps this Wednesday I can go shop at Marina/ Bugis. Quite a lot of stuff requires replacement already, like my belt, wallet and shoes, all torn and tattered. Time to get a new set. Still undecided on the Nike Free, have not been running and I need some motivation to run. A good shoe will come in place. At the same time tempted by a pair of Puma shoes for street wear and work. Thinking of it 1.8k isn't really a lot. Still have to set aside some for investment. En-com, asianpay or HYIP. So stress when you have money. Perhaps I should just save it in my OCBC account to let it have some form of respectable balance.

Still have a few of such months to go as StarHub extends my contract. I agreed to the contract extension after some hesitation. Sometimes I really felt that I sold my soul for money. Will explore this in my next entry, hopefully soon.

My Experience @ Singpost Centre
Wilson posted at 10:50 PM

Since today I'm on off and have some time before meeting my friends, I decided to go to the Singpost Centre to settle some chores for Nomadic Technology since it is open today. I intended to do the following at the Singpost Centre.Once I entered the Singpost main branch, I got quite a shock when I saw the queue. The queue was around 20+ people, and as I only set aside 20mins for my tasks, I decided to just do the remittance if time does not permit me to complete the registration. As usual, I went to the ticket machine to obtain a queue no. for the remittance. Quite surprising, the ticket machine is off today, meaning that I have to join the queue. Since I'm already there, I thought that I might as well try my luck and join the queue. However, before that I have to fill up the form for registration of mail. At the writing desks I took a form, only to find out that no pen is provided. I started to think that is it so hard for them to provide pens at the writing desk and they shouldn't expect everyone to bring a pen of their own. As far as I remember, they used to do so. By then I was getting a little disappointed at their services, but well I thought I'll have time to fill them up while they process the remittance and joined the queue.

Long Long Queue

Time past by and the queue barely moved. I started to do some observations, there are a total of 12 counters in the Singpost Centre, more than any other post office in Singapore since it is the main branch. However, there's only 4 customer service officers working today. Actually not only today, but on other days when I visit the post office there is only 4 customer service officers working. As I'm waiting and queue, I started to get a little frustrated. Why did they have to waste so much money building such a big post office when they only intended to hire 4 customer service officers and shouldn't they be more prepared for the Sunday queue by hiring part time staffs on Sunday. Another thing I noticed is that most of the queueing customers are not going to the post office for postage-related services. Majority of them are queueing to pay their telephone bills and stuff as such. However, a post office is still a post office, shouldn't they give priority to customers using postage-related services by separating the queues. If customers want to pay their bills, they can do it through SAM or 7-11, if they want to do remittance, they can go to the Western Union offices, but there's no other places I can go for postage-related services.

After spending 20mins in the queue with still more than 10people in front of me in the queue, I decided that I will not have enough time to complete the tasks and just settle to purchase the postage from the SAM and complete the rest another day. Found out that they have 'upgraded' the SAM machine. Yet, this new SAM machine does not even have the weighing function while the old SAM machine had it. Fortunately I knew the weight of the item and is able to work out the postage fee. Another function they removed from this SAM machine is the coins payment. I just wanted to purchase a 31cents stamp and I have to use my nets, enter my pin and wait for it to process. What a waste of time. The only good thing is that there's nobody using the SAM machine so I need not queue up. However, this also prompt me to think why did they spend money to 'upgrade' the SAM machine when nobody is using it. At least more effort should be made in educating or advice the mass to use the SAM machine. If those queueing customers can use the SAM to pay their bills and it will probably benefit both the postage-related and non-postage related service users.

Notice the 'upgrade' ?

I understand that Singpost is a monopoly of postage service in Singapore and therefore need not be too concerned about the level of service quality as there's no other alternatives that consumers can go to. However as a public service provider, Singpost should ensure that a certain level of service quality should be maintained. These years Singpost have been increasing the number of services provided, e.g. credit and shopping but it should remember the very reason why it was established, which is to provide an efficient postage services for Singaporeans. If Singpost can't even do this well, I do not see why they should expend their operations to other aspects.

Majestic on the outside, yet no better than any other branch

X - Gamble Part I: The First Thought
Wilson posted at 10:13 PM

Woke up this morning, checked the Euro League score using GPRS. Can't really remember what I bet the night before, but subconsciously feel that I had a claypot again. Quickly logged onto Gamebookers to view my bet. Then I confirmed my feeling - CLAYPOT.

Never had I felt so unlucky before, just 24hrs before that I thought that my luck had changed, with a little winning. After some quick calculation, lost all the winnings I had the day before, and lost another $120 from my own pocket. What rotten luck.

Still remember my plans on the 1st Jan, to win $1000 by the end of January with $500. Now, barely 5days into January, the $500 have diminished to $135.50. With this stats, I have no choice but to abolish my plans. While traveling to work, I have this thought: perhaps it's time to quit. Years of betting have shown that betting would not help me get rich, and it doesn't take too long for me to decide to quit, for the time being. So meanwhile, I'll see what the $135.50 can do for me. Either I lose it all, or I win back the $500 and I'll stop, at least contain myself with small bets at Singapore Pools. Today marks my first day of project 'bet to quit'. Wish me luck =)

Overnight Cycling 01-02 Jan
Wilson posted at 10:18 PM

Today I created this blog and this is the 3rd blog entry I'm writing for today. Was rather tired today and originally did not want to write this entry but felt that this is rather memorable for me and would like to share this experience with you.

Last night, I went for an overnight cycling trip with my NPCC gang. Haven seen Juncheng and Shawn for quite sometime, especially Shawn, guess the last time I saw him is 2004 if I didn't remember wrongly. The bulk of the expediture is done at the Southern part of Singapore, starting off from East Coast park, and in the night we conquered:
The trip up the Mt Faber is especially tiring due to the steep slopes, where certain part I was too tired to cycle up and decided to push the bicycle up instead. Finally, we reached the peak and took this photo:

Lot's of fun last night, but of course it's tough, especialy on the butt, but that's how memories can be remembered. It's a unique experience for me as this is the first time I went for overnight cycling. Compared to the day cycling, I would prefer night cycling as it's safer to cycle on the road and it's not that hot.

Now to share more pics:

Can you tell the word we are forming?

Nice photo at Sentosa, thanks to a failed jump shot

New Year Resolution
Wilson posted at 10:03 PM

This is the usually the time to write down your new year resolution for 2007. If you still have not written down your new year resolotion, this is the time to think about it. Looking back at 2006, it was a flop and I did not realise most of my resolution due to NS commitment, but this year, I would not allow it to happen again. Here's my resolution.

May yours and my wishes come true.

New Blog... Do support..
Wilson posted at 7:43 PM

Yeah, finally a new blog. Been thinking for quite sometime whether to keep a personal diary or to have a public blog for year 2007, and here it is, the Nomadic Lifestyle Blog. No crushes at the moment, and what's happening to me is rather open to all and therefore no harm writing everything down on this blog and at the same time hopefully my friends can get to know me better as well.

Why nomadic lifestyle? This year I would expect quite a few major changes in my life, making it rather unsettled. Job hoppings, becoming a student again are just a few to name, making me more like a nomad, shifting from place to place.

Keeping a diary is hard enough, keeping a blog would take more determination. Hade a few attempts at diary before, and most of the time I'll forget about it's existence at around April or so, only to rediscover it during some room clearing sessions. By that time this idea often comes to my mind, "Perhaps I'll have a complete diary next year" What a joke...

The first attempt I have in keeping a blog. No advertising of any sort yet till I have sufficient content in my blog, and therefore I'll expect 0 clicks for the month of January. If you manage to see this post, you are VERY LUCKY. Please leave some comment for me, and I'll try to take time everyday, or at least thrice a week to update this blog, just for you.

Happy 2007. Cheers.
