Intern Interview
Wilson posted at 11:16 PM

Went for my intern interview at today at Henderson Industrial Park which is quite a distance from my house. The hot weather plus me wearing long sleeves made me very sian and the industrial park looks quite run down and then i started to worry about my internship. Went up to the office and a lady led me to the interview room and gave me a form to fill up. For the next half an hour no one attended to me and the entire room is just me and the form. Why would I need more than half an hour to fill up this form? As every minute passed by I just felt more and more sian and thoughts of hecking the interview and just focusing on the Singapore Pools intern came to my mind.

Finally another lady came into the room to interview me, she was quite young and cute, so I gave up the thought of hecking the interview. Apparently she was quite impressed with my resume, which made things much easier for me. Somehow my skill sets matched the job very well, especially with my NAFA course. And for part of the interview, I was showing her my NAFA portfolio which was quite weird considering I am applying for a marketing intern because I'm pursuing a degree in BBM majoring in marketing but have no SMU marketing projects to show. She seemed quite pleased with it too, especially with my Swatch watch design. I always knew that opportunities go to those who are most prepared.

It was more of a chit chat rather than interview and she spent quite some time explaining to me what the job scope is in the company. The job scope sounded interesting, as a significant part of the job is producing artwork, which one year ago I will never imagine myself doing. The job involved marketing research also, which requires me to go down to Sim Lim and Funan to talk with the retailers. An important part was the trade show coordination, which during my term will be The PC Show. So we talked for around 45mins or so, in quite a relaxing mode. Think that SMU presentation Q&As has trained me well, as in words just come out of my mouth quite quickly and since there's no generation gap, I did not put in effort to say politically correct answer. Overall I think I did quite well for the interview, though I do not know who the other applicant for the same position was, but my grades and my NAFA course gave me a bit of unfair advantage. While walking out, she asked me a weird question, with my grades why didn't I chose NUS or NTU? That probably gave a view of how the common perception of SMU by firms, but I certainly didn't expect that question to come out from a reasonably young working personnel.

For now, I just need to wait for the result of the interview through the school as well as wait for an interview from Singapore Pools. If I am lucky enough to be offered by both companies, I might have a hard time choosing though. My business statistics will be put into good use in Sgpools while Asiapac will give me a wide view of marketing. And I'm not too sure how strict the SMU 'choose the first offer' policy is, otherwise by chronological order, I will more or less be interning in Asiapac. Oh well, more choices are better than no choice.

And tonight I'm quite addicted to Hitler spoofs, here's one which I particularly like:

A Strange Encounter
Wilson posted at 11:41 PM

While on my way to school yesterday, as usual I stopped by Suntec to change bus. Then a singh approached me to ask for directions to Little India and I told him that no bus goes there to suntec. He started talking to me then, telling me he is a yoga professor having hundreds of students. Next he told me in July 2013, I will start my own business. Thinking that he was just another lunatic, I took his words with a pinch of salt. He then told me to send him a letter if his prediction came true and gave me his name and address: Mr Singh (Yogi), Yoga University of New Delhi, postpin 141007 (this don't look like a valid address, and I later research on internet and this university doesn't exist).

That's not the main point. He wrote something on a piece of paper, crushed it and then passed to me. After that, he asked me for my date of birth and I told him. Next he asked me to open up the paper the gave me and my date of birth was written correctly on it. That's damn FREAKY lah and it's even more high level than those street magic I saw on TV. He then told me that I will get married with 2 sons, which sounded good. I hoped to know more about my future, but at the same time I was weary that he was a scammer or can cast some curse, I quickly left when I saw my bus coming. That was the first time I came across such a situation, but fortunately all his predictions were on the positive side. However, I totally could not understand how come my date of birth written correctly on the piece of paper he gave me. Most probably I will never figure that out and some things probably can't be explained by science. Oh well, now all I can do is to hope that his prediction will come true, at least I can be a boss and I won't be a bachelor.

Back to reality, Vday is coming soon and most prob I'll have to spend it at the range this vday =( And recently I have been listening to this song which I like a lot - 黄靖伦 - 缺席. A suitable song for me this vday too, but that's not the complete reason why I'm listen to this song over again and again. Singapore rarely produces such quality singers, and we should give him our support.
