Interest, Ability and Satisfaction
Wilson posted at 9:46 PM

After trying out so many stuff in SMU, I have to sadly conclude that there's no activity that I have interest, ability and satisfaction in. The last time I found such activity is during my harmoc days and my venture into sports and clubs (floorball, archery and E.Y.E investment) in SMU has not been a real success.

Floorball (interest: yes, ability: zero, satisfaction: yes)
This is what I wanted to join even before school started, just because I enjoyed the one lesson of floorball lesson I had in HC. As competitive training started, reality started to kick in. My turtle speed, fantastic pass to opponents and non-existence dribbling became more and more obvious. I am pretty sure that I would never have the chance to play in any competitive game unless some miracle happens. However, team sport is what gave me satisfaction as there's people who can share the joy with you when you score. Getting quite dishearted and it's the ching teng after floorball which keeps me going.

Archery (interest: yes, ability: average, satisfaction: unknown)
Similar to floorball, an activity which I was interested in because of a shooting session during my dunman days. After weeks of training started to show some improvements. Managed to change my shooting hand from right to left, stopped hitting my arm and less incorrect technique. Haven't seen or joined any competition except the internal shoot which I did not do well, so do not know if I can get satisfaction from archery.

Investing (interest: yes, ability: yes, satisfaction: no)
Gained my interest during the E.Y.E investment camp and officially began my investing journey 3weeks ago. Either it's talent and beginner's luck I felt that I did really well, having more than 10% of combined realized and unrealized profit in 3weeks time despite the fact the market did not do well. However, the satisfaction is just not there as I have no need for the extra cash and the gain is reflected just as a change in the number in my bank account.

Let see how far I can go in those activities first and meanwhile I should go for more ac-hoc activities by SMUX too. Guess I'm getting too greedy. The more you have, the harder it is to get happy and what you don't have will be a greater imperfection. My Virgo nature is getting back to me again...

Leadership and Tower Building
Wilson posted at 10:48 PM

Quite surprised with the number of variations LTB (leadership and team-building) had evolved into. It became leadership and tree building for my community service project and today's class activity is building a straw tower, which I termed it leadership and tower building.

The finished product

The producers

And 3 eggs held in the tower

The afternoon LTB meeting is much tougher but I was glad that things were moving. I was making many many calls to food sponsors such as KFC, D'fine, Nestle, etc. Reminds me of the day in Callback team and guess that was good training. However, there was rejections, and perceived delayed rejection by asking me to send an e-mail. Guess we started too late, our bad.

Later on went to the Cage with Jasmin for a sponsorship meeting with the officer in charge there. It's more like negotiating a business deal over there with the bald man who still have to discuss with his director and give us a reply. Hope it will be a good response this time round.

Back to School
Wilson posted at 6:07 PM

After a one week recess week I'm finally back to having lessons today. Guess I had fully utilised my break and enjoyed myself much more than those Smuggers around. I'm really glad that I did so much stuff during the hols (mugging not included).

Greenies outing, archery, floorball, mahjong, birthday celebrations, movies, retail therapy, cycling trip to Rengit... What else more can I expect? Of course not forgetting sleeping. I've been having tonnes of naps and long sleep in the night, storing energy for the school term. I also began my first investments in the stock market and had already recorded my first realised earnings and still have some unrealised earnings in my portfolio. Still have some time to start exploring facebook as well. Understood why people say it was addictive. Nevertheless it was a good tool to talk to friends that I've haven't contacted for a long time.

Now that I'm back to school again and I'm already looking forward the the December hols already. Hopefully can try more stuff then and probably go for a cycling trip to Desaru. First things first got to settle my current work first. My LTB is still in tatters when the execution is next week end, think gonna go Bugis and pray one of these days. Hated my FA project too. Writing a report based on a financial report. No research to do and no opinions needed, meaning that either you know how to do it or you don't and sadly I fall in the latter category. I still prefer to do projects which I can use inspirations and feelings. Got this urge to work through the night for this project to settle it once and for all so that I need not think about it again.

Back from Rengit Trip
Wilson posted at 11:08 PM

Back from Rengit Trip, tall, dark and handsome (gonna be controversial again) but it was really scorching over there. The ride was nothing spectacular with sceneries similar to Ubin and it's only a 35km ride. What makes the ride so enjoyable was really my group which consist of enthu and super enthu peeps.

It all began with a bumboat ride from Changi ferry terminal...

Happily cycling until we got our helmets

Continued in search of the legendary Rengit seafood lunch. Talk of crabs and prawns before that but this is what we have

Our group showed that we are people with emotions

Last look at Rengit

And back to reality...

It's the Holidays
Wilson posted at 12:25 PM

My term break is finally here, and without any mid-terms to worry about, the recess week is all for me to enjoy. Sort of arrange my holidays with many activities, such as the Rengit biking trip, floorball trainings, projects, archery and of course not forgetting retail therapy.

No time to waste to enjoy the hols, starting from yesterday. Project meeting in the morning aside, went for yet another fun but tiring archery training. Initially got a bit of overcrowding and not many chance to shoot but towards the end each of us got our own bow and almost free flow of arrows. Training can be made interesting too. Instead of aiming the centre of the board, we aimed at a rope securing the board in a bid to snap it, although to no avail. Nevertheless it's fun to see our arrows clustering along 2 parallel lines along the rope. Finally they put on a target board for us to aim and shoot. We were quite accurate though, looking at the board after our mass fire. Sigh, but now I've committed and join the competitive floorball team, think next time the training will clash and I might not be able to join archery after all. Training don't clash please!!!

You won't want to mess with us

In the night time went for Weiling's birthday celebration at Pizza Hut at the ulu Northern causeway point. (So far!!!) Guess all the training for the past week went to waste considering the amount I ate. After the dinner, some of us proceeded for a night, or should I say morning of board games at Mind Cafe, Prinsep. Played a few different type of board games and guess I enjoyed Saboteur most. Played all the way till 3am when the cafe close shop. Shagged. Now gotta wait for ben dan to slowly send me the pics so that I can upload them.

Updated on 08 Oct after ben dan sent me the photos surprisingly fast:

Me, Aally Kwan and the 'Cheesecake'

Me, Ben Dan and the birthday girl

The guys @ the dinner

Food, games and good company

Presentation
Wilson posted at 1:17 AM

TWC presentation is a success today and everyone in the group present extremely well today, winning the prof’s praises at the same time. Actually it was the best presentation that I ever had in SMU, even though I did not even have a script for this presentation. I also did not practice as hard as the previous management comm presentation but somehow everything flowed smoothly and I was filled with confidence today.

Today’s presentation was about Biotechnology and I was in-charge of covering gene therapy. Tried something different today by using more pictures than usual and I suppose that reduced the amount of stuff I need to remember as well. I even had a chance to make a joke regarding ethic issues on gene therapy, ‘if you want your children to be as tall as Yao Ming, as muscular as Arnold Swarchenegger or as handsome as me…’ and that brought laughter into the class and Prof deemed it the joke of the day. But hey, that wasn’t a joke, it’s a fact! But taking into account that the class and prof like it and we get to get better grades it’s alright to make this little sacrifice.

Anyway, this is my wonderful TWC group. Hopefully we can carry this momentum all the way to the final report and get our first A+ in SMU.

In colour

And Black and White

By the way went to watch Lust, Caution 色戒 in the night. A more cheem show with more thinking required. Overall the show was quite nice with solid acting by the actors. The only minus point was that too much of the movie was censored too much that there was lack of flow for some part of the movies.

Working hard, Playing hard
Wilson posted at 5:47 PM

Seems like I'm coping with life in SMU quite well and it's been some time since I spent my entire day purely mugging. With all the cool CCAs and activities around, it really depends on one if he or she wants to enjoy himself.

Starting with the Gourmet Club outing on Thursday at Hey Hey Hot Pot with the Ex-greenies. We indulged ourselves with steamboat but the ingredients were rather unique though. Custard dumplings, cheese fishballs, char siew bao were among some of the ingredients that you can actually throw into the soup to cook. Interesting uh? The world is so small anyway, met my long lost friend Lionel who was in the same primary school as me and just happened to be Lewis' friend as well.

Friday was sports fiesta but due to lessons could not attend the starting part. Merged into Derrick and Ziyou's team for a couple of game. Although lost in all the games I played, I had lots of fun though. Get to know their Transformer group better and they were a bunch of cool people, just as nice as my sports camp group. Glad to know that I will be going to Rengit with some of them next week as well.

Went for my first archery training on Saturday at some ulu place at Potong Pasir. Even though it was quite near my house, I spent some time looking for it cause it was hidden in some small streets. Sort of a free and easy session where we spent the entire 3 hours shooting at the target. As one of the only two left-hand shooters, I basically did not need to share the bow with anyone so I can just shoot non-stop. Towards the end of the shoot, everyone was shagged and was more interested in clearing the arrows rather than hitting the target. It was a fruitful and de-stressing session for me though. Finally got used to shooting with my left hand. I was not hitting my hand that often and my accuracy had reached that with my right hand. Probably I can improve more during the next session and be a dark horse in the intra-school shooting competition next week.

Initially planned to mug the whole of yesterday but as usual the z-monster always set in on a Sunday afternoon. Instead of giving in to it, I decided to go for a run. Haven't been running long distance for 2 weeks but still managed to complete my 10km run. Starting to feel the lack of support for my shoes and perhaps it's time to changed to a new pair.

By the way, in one hour time it's floorball recre again. Fun!!
