Looking Back 2008
Wilson posted at 6:26 PM

Spent the last day of 2008 with a morning mahjong session and an emo New Year countdown gathering at night. The past few weeks has been rather busy for me, so busy that I haven't got the time to look back at 2008. Today has been quite a nua day for me, so now's a good time for me to look back at 2008, but probably just a simple one.

Events for the Year

I had quite a vague memory of my first half of the year, which I think was my slackest semester so far. Then I was still quite active in floorball, had quite a few enjoyable projects but the rest I can't remember much.

Thinking of it, I think I squandered my summers away too, and 3-4months of holidays just passed by like that. Just quite a number of archery trainings, the MAS-ESS Essay competition and some enjoyment and tada, the holidays just went by. But things to remember are the sports camp and smux camp which are the first times I tried being a facilitator, and I enjoyed the camps as much as my freshies do, and made quite a number of new friends which I still keep in contact.

The last four months I have been working like a dog, with 5 modules in SMU and more time consuming the NAFA course. Lots of meeting, lots of assignment, lots of exams and lots of mugging and NO life. Fortunately hard work pays off eventually, as my GPA hits a new high this semester. And it's during this semester I stumbled across the Business Statistics major which I now enjoyed so much. The last month was more eventful, with the 42km run, my new bike, the desaru ride and my surprise election as Archery president.

That's more or less for events. Resolution-wise, I achieved all but one of my new year resolutions, looks good, but I can't really be happy with the last resolution unachieved.

Myself

This year I can see quite some changes in myself as well. I find myself willing to try more stuff this year. Who would expect someone who keep on failing art to take on a course on Visual Communications? Sports camp, smux camp, 2days week, 5 exams in 3 days, etc are many things which many people do not have a chance to try, and I never regretted trying. The 'Yes Man' concept is quite true in real life with return coming in various forms.

I'm spending more resources to do what I like too. Half year and 1.3k for visual comms, $550 and all my Saturdays on archery and another $550 for biking. I don't believe in long term any more and go for present consumption. After all the earlier you spend, the longer you get to enjoy your purchases. Sounds logical?

I think that I'm better in talking to others this year, even in English. It's more of a confidence thing. But still plenty to work on, although I can talk to strangers better, I still can't leave a strong impression of myself.

Others

Overall, I would think that 2008 lacks significance to me, no milestone achieved but I guess it's a training year to prepare me for the next milestone I achieve. Thanks to all around me to help me survive yet another year, for all the joy that you all gave me throughout the year.
