Attended my very first lesson for Visual Comms yest and Tuesday lessons are for computer studies. Basically the first 5 weeks of computers studies will be on Adobe Illustrator, and the next 5 will be on Adobe Photoshop, and the last 10 will be on Adobe InDesign. Looking around the classrooms, some of the students were aunties, some were office ladies and there were also a few arty-farty looking youths.
When it's time for the class to start there was no instructor in sight. It was only after 15mins an old bald man walked into the class and I was rather disappointed that it was not a weird looking artistic instructor. In addition, the screen was totally out of focus, making the words on the screen unreadable. The content of the course make up for it partially though. Firstly, we have nice Macs to use and that was actually my first time using a Mac. Next, the effects of Illustrator is simply amazing. Even though the first lesson is simply about text and vectors, a few clicks can turn those text and vectors into beautiful logos. The instructor sort of went out of stuff to teach in to last our as he gave us a mini-project to work on and more or less left the time for us to explore the various filters and effects.
The next few days got to install Illustrator on my laptop and work on my first project. No GPA at stake so finally I can let my limited creativity run free in a project. Probably will start to post some of my 'art work' on the blog so stay tuned to see the other side of Wilson. Tomorrow will be the first lesson on Principle of Designs, hopefully it will be a new eye-opener for me.
